Transparent PNG vs JPG: which should you download?
if you removed a background and still see a white box when you place the image somewhere, it was almost certainly saved as a jpg. jpg cannot store transparency.
quick rule
- png: transparency, sharp edges, bigger files. best for logos, stickers, slides and design tools.
- webp: transparency and much smaller files. best for websites.
- jpg: no transparency. fine when you already added a solid background color.
what workhorse does
when you pick jpg with a transparent background, workhorse fills it with white automatically so you never get a black box. pick png or webp to keep transparency.
