how to json viewer

  1. paste your json into the box, or press sample to try it out.
  2. if it is invalid, read the line and column message and press jump to error to land on the problem.
  3. pick an indent, minify it, or turn on sort keys, then switch between text and tree view.
  4. type a path such as $.users[*].name to pull out values, then copy or download the result.

api responses and config files are hard to scan as text once they nest more than two or three levels. the tree starts with the first two levels open, and a count next to every object or array shows how many children it holds so you can tell a list of ten from a list of ten thousand without opening it.

use expand all for small documents and collapse all to start again from the top. for large arrays the viewer shows the first 100 items and lets you load more in batches, which keeps the page fast. clicking a key puts its full path in the query box and lists the value below.

frequently asked questions

can i view a json file instead of pasting?

open the file in any text editor, copy its content and paste it here. the viewer parses it locally, so nothing is uploaded.

how do i copy the path to a value?

click the key in the tree. its path, for example $.users[0].name, is filled into the query box, ready to copy.

why is the tree empty for my text?

the viewer needs valid json. if the box shows an error, fix the line it points to. text with single quotes, comments or trailing commas is not valid json.
