how to memorable password generator
- pick a mode: random, pronounceable or memorable words.
- set the length and the character types, and choose how many passwords you want.
- check the strength meter and the estimated crack time.
- copy one password, copy all, or download the list as a .txt file.
each word is picked at random from a list of about 2,000 words, which is roughly 11 bits per word. four words give about 44 bits, five about 55 and six about 66, so for anything important use six or more words, and add capitals and digits as the meter suggests. the words must be chosen by the computer: a phrase you make up yourself is far easier to guess.
picture the words as a short story and say them out loud a few times. you do not need to write them down after about a week of using them. for your password manager master password and your device unlock, a memorable phrase of six or seven words is a good choice.

frequently asked questions
are memorable passwords as secure as random ones?
per character they are weaker, but per effort to remember they are better. six random words from a 2,000 word list give about 66 bits, which is strong. the meter shows the exact number for your settings.
should i add numbers and capitals?
a number adds about 6.6 bits and random capitals add 1 bit per word. they help with sites that demand them, but an extra word adds more strength than either.
can i use my own words?
not here. self-chosen words are much more predictable, so the tool only draws random words from its list. use the passphrase generator for a longer wordlist-based phrase with more options.
