how to percentage increase calculator
- pick a mode: x% of y, x is what % of y, % change, % increase or % decrease.
- type the two numbers. the result and the formula update as you type.
- tick compare two scenarios to test a second pair of numbers next to the first, such as two discounts.
- press copy share link to send the exact inputs to someone else.
to raise a number by a percentage, multiply it by 1 plus the rate. adding 8% to a 250 rent is 250 × 1.08 = 270. this is the same calculation behind price rises, salary raises, and sales tax added on top of a net price.
to work out how much something rose between two values instead, switch to the percent change mode and enter the old and new number. the two are inverses of each other, so you can check one against the other.

frequently asked questions
how do i increase a number by 15%?
multiply it by 1.15. for 200 that is 230. in this tool, type 15 in the increase field and 200 as the starting value.
why is a 20% increase not undone by a 20% decrease?
because the decrease is taken from the larger new number. 100 up 20% is 120, and 120 down 20% is 96. to get back to 100 you need to cut about 16.7%.
can i use it for salary raises?
yes. enter your current pay as the starting value and the raise percentage. the result is the new pay, and the added line shows the difference per period.
