how to resize image
- drop one or more images on the box above.
- pick a preset such as instagram post or youtube thumbnail, or type your own width and height.
- lock the aspect ratio to keep proportions, or unlock it and choose how to handle a different shape.
- choose png, jpg or webp and download the image, or the zip for a batch.
shrinking a photo keeps it sharp, but enlarging it cannot add detail that was never captured, so a small image stretched large looks soft. start from the biggest original you have, and make several smaller copies from it instead of resizing the same copy again and again.
most platforms crop and recompress images anyway. uploading at their exact size avoids surprise crops: 1080 × 1080 for an instagram square post, 1080 × 1350 for a portrait post, 1080 × 1920 for stories and 1280 × 720 for a youtube thumbnail. if your photo is a different shape, choose fill and crop to fill the frame, or fit with bars to keep everything visible.
for email and chat, 1600 px on the long side is plenty. for a web page, match the displayed width, doubled for retina screens. the percent mode is handy when you only want a smaller copy, such as 50 percent. png keeps transparency but is large for photos, so save photos as jpg or webp.

frequently asked questions
how do i resize an image without losing quality?
enter the new size and keep aspect ratio locked. downscaling stays sharp; making an image bigger cannot add detail, so it may look soft.
what formats can i save as?
png, jpg or webp. jpg and webp have a quality slider; png is lossless and keeps transparency.
is my image uploaded?
no. resizing uses your browser canvas, so the photo never leaves your device.
what happens when the new shape does not match the photo?
with the aspect ratio unlocked you choose: fill and crop the edges (like instagram does), fit inside and add colored bars, fit inside with no bars, or stretch. stretching distorts people and circles, so cropping is usually the better choice.
can i resize many images at once?
yes. drop several files and set one width. every image is scaled to that width and keeps its own proportions, then you download them together as a zip.
does resizing make the file smaller?
usually yes, since fewer pixels means less data. halving both width and height cuts the pixel count to a quarter. for a specific file size such as 100 kb, use compress image after resizing.
