how to crop image

  1. drop an image, or several, on the box above.
  2. pick a ratio such as 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9, or leave it on free.
  3. drag on the picture to place the crop box, or type exact x, y, width and height values.
  4. download the cropped image, or press crop all to get a zip of centered crops.

cropping removes pixels from the edges, so the result is smaller in dimensions but just as sharp. use it to remove distracting edges, to fit a social media frame, or to cut down to a face before compressing for a form upload. crop before you resize, so you never scale pixels that you are going to throw away.

common ratios: 1:1 for profile pictures and square posts, 4:5 for instagram portrait posts, 16:9 for video thumbnails and slides, 9:16 for stories and reels, 4:3 and 3:2 for standard camera photos and prints. with a ratio chosen, the box keeps that shape while you drag, so you only decide where it goes and how big.

if you need the same crop on many photos, such as product shots, choose a ratio and use crop all. it takes the largest centered area of that ratio from every photo, so keep the subject near the middle when you shoot. for a specific pixel size, crop to the ratio first and then use resize image.

frequently asked questions

how do i crop to a square or 16:9?

choose a ratio button, then drag on the image. the box keeps that ratio while you drag.

will cropping reduce quality?

no. the selected pixels are copied at full resolution; nothing is resampled.

does it upload my photo?

no, the crop happens in your browser on your device.

can i crop several photos to the same ratio?

yes. drop multiple images, pick a ratio and press the crop all button. each photo gets the largest centered crop of that ratio and you download them as a zip.

how do i crop to an exact pixel size?

type the x and y position and the width and height under the preview. the numbers update while you drag, so you can drag first and fine tune after.

which file format do i get back?

jpg photos stay jpg and everything else becomes png, which keeps transparency. the crop is not recompressed beyond a normal jpg save, so quality loss is minimal.
