how to passport photo maker

  1. drop a front-facing portrait with even light and the head fully visible.
  2. choose the country size and, if you like, tick the ai background option.
  3. use zoom and the move sliders to fit the head to the guide oval.
  4. download the single photo, or pick a paper size and the number of copies for a print sheet.

a good passport photo starts with the shot, not the software. stand a meter from a plain light wall, face the window or a lamp so there are no shadows on your face, look straight at the camera with a neutral expression, and keep your hair away from your eyes. take the photo at eye level, since a phone held low or high distorts the face.

sizes differ by country: the us uses 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm), the uk, eu, australia and japan use 35 × 45 mm, canada uses 50 × 70 mm and china 33 × 48 mm. india uses 35 × 45 mm for passports and 51 × 51 mm for visas and oci. the head usually has to fill 70 to 80 percent of the height, which is what the red guide oval is for. it is a guide, not an official check.

print the sheet at 100 percent scale, never 'fit to page'. a photo shop prints a 4 × 6 inch sheet cheaply and you cut along the thin lines. photos sit edge to edge to fit as many as possible. the output is 300 dpi, so the digital file also meets most online upload resolutions. if you use the ai background, check the edges of hair and ears at full zoom before you print or upload.

frequently asked questions

which sizes are supported?

us 2x2 inch, uk and eu 35x45 mm, india (2x2 inch for visas and 35x45 mm for passports), canada and brazil 50x70 mm, china 33x48 mm, australia and japan 35x45 mm.

how do i print them?

download the print sheet and print it at a photo shop or at home at 100% scale, 300 dpi, on glossy or matte photo paper. do not use 'fit to page'.

is my photo uploaded?

no. it is processed in your browser. the background removal model also runs on your device after it is downloaded once.

how does the white background work?

tick the background box and an ai model separates you from the background. the background color you choose is put behind it. it runs on your device and needs to download a model on first use. if hair edges look off, retake the photo against a plain light wall instead.

can i use this for an online application?

usually, but check size and file limits. many portals want a jpg between 20 and 500 kb. download the single photo, then use compress image to hit the limit.

what are the rules for the photo itself?

these vary by country, but common rules are a neutral expression, eyes open, no glasses, plain light background, no shadows, and the face centered covering 70 to 80 percent of the frame height. always check the official government site, as rules change.
