how to qr code generator

  1. choose what the code holds: url, text, wifi, email, phone or a contact card, then fill in the details.
  2. pick colors, and optionally add a logo or switch on the frame with a caption such as "scan me".
  3. check the preview and scan it with your phone before you print.
  4. download as png for screens, or svg or pdf for print. use the bulk box for a whole list.

a qr code stores its data directly in the pattern, so there is no account, tracking link or expiry. the more you put in, the denser the pattern gets, and dense codes need to be printed larger to scan well. a short url makes a simpler, more reliable code than a long one with tracking parameters.

error correction lets a code survive dirt, damage or a logo covering the middle. low recovers about 7 percent, medium 15, quartile 25 and high 30, at the cost of a denser pattern. adding a logo switches to high, and the logo covers about 5 percent of the area. always test the finished code with two or three different phones.

keep strong contrast and a dark code on a light background. very light colors, gradients behind the code or inverted codes fail on some older scanners. when printing, use svg or pdf and leave a clear margin of at least four modules around the code.

frequently asked questions

do these qr codes expire?

no. the data is encoded straight into the image, so the code works forever and nothing is tracked or redirected.

can I add a logo?

yes. upload a logo and it is placed in the center. we use high error correction so the code still scans.

is my data uploaded?

no. the code is generated in your browser and your text never leaves your device.

which file format should i download?

use svg or pdf for anything printed, because they are vector and stay sharp at any size, from a sticker to a poster. use png for websites, slides and social posts. a png at 1000 px or more is enough for most print jobs up to a few centimeters wide.

how big should a printed qr code be?

at least 2 x 2 cm (about 0.8 inch) for close scanning, and roughly one tenth of the scanning distance. a code on a poster read from 2 meters should be about 20 cm wide. keep the quiet margin around the code and print dark on light.

can i make many qr codes at once?

yes. open the bulk section, paste one link per line (optionally a file name after a comma) or load a csv, and download a zip of png files that use your colors, frame and logo.
