how to high quality video to gif

- choose fit a file size and type a limit, or set frames per second and width yourself.
- press make gif, then download it.
gifs are limited to 256 colours per frame, so banding appears in skies, skin and gradients. this preset builds an optimised palette from your clip and uses error-diffusion dithering, which hides the banding at the cost of larger files.
to keep it sharp, keep the clip short. at 800 px wide and 20 fps, even four seconds can reach 10 to 20 mb on busy footage. for a portfolio or a blog where file size matters less than looks, that is fine. if it is too heavy, drop to 15 fps first; most people cannot tell the difference.

frequently asked questions
how high can the quality go?
width up to 1000 px and 30 fps. the colour count is fixed by the gif format at 256, so we maximise it with a palette tuned to your clip.
why is the file so large?
more pixels and more frames. switch to fit a file size mode to set a cap, or reduce fps to 15.
is there a better format for high quality?
yes. mp4 or webm is far sharper at a fraction of the size. use a gif only where video is not accepted.
