how to screen recorder for mac

  1. tick the options you want: microphone, tab or system audio, webcam, countdown.
  2. press start recording and choose a screen, window or tab in the browser picker.
  3. watch the 3 second countdown, then do what you want to record.

macos does not let browsers capture the sound of the whole computer. you can record a chrome tab's audio, which covers videos, meetings and web apps, and your own microphone. to record audio from an app, use quicktime with a virtual audio device instead, or play the app's sound through a browser tab.

the first time, macos asks for screen recording permission for your browser, under system settings, privacy and security. you may need to quit and reopen the browser afterwards. recent safari records mp4 directly; other browsers record webm and we convert.
